TITLE: Treatment Plant Operator In Training (OIT)
CLASSIFICATION: Permanent, Full–Time, Union
SUPERVISOR: District Operations Manager
Position Duties
Receives training in and assists in the operation of the plant and appurtenances to perform all work tasks required for the operation, maintenance, and repair of a water treatment plant, distribution system, and all components.
Position Requirements
• Under close supervision, conducts routine sampling, prepares/submits monthly reports, maintains required records, communicates with fellow operators on correct sampling methods, cleans/calibrates equipment, and monitors and tests water quality.
• Assists with the daily operations of the treatment plant and distribution system. To include plant and distribution system operations, collect samples, perform daily water-treatment laboratory tests, and read meters.
• Respond to emergency call-ins: water leaks, equipment failures, and water quality issues.
• Respond to OUPS tickets and locate and mark District water lines with guidance.
• With the Senior operator's instruction, becomes proficient in SCADA System monitoring and operation.
• Performs routine maintenance, reads water meters, and repairs water leaks.
• Assists with vehicle care, cleaning, service, loading, and unloading trucks.
• Performs custodial duties (cleaning, painting, grass mowing, weed eating, etc.)
• Responds to customer comments or complaints in a professional, courteous manner.
• Must obtain the knowledge and initiative to troubleshoot and repair treatment equipment.
• Perform all other assigned job duties as directed.
Special Requirements
• Must obtain an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Water Supply Class 1 Certification within 24 months from the hire date. Continued employment is contingent upon possessing the referenced Class 1 license. Upon completing the probationary period and possessing the appropriate license (OEPA Class 1), this position will be reassigned to Water Supply Operator 1 Classification. It must comply with the Water Supply Operator 1 position description when reassigned.
• Must obtain a BORWD/OEPA laboratory certification within twelve (12) months from the date of employment.
• Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License.
• Must maintain residence within a 30-minute normal response time to the Water District's main office.
• Ability to climb and access all District water storage tanks for visual interior inspection and level calibration.
• Knowledgeable of Safety Practices, recognizing unusual or threatening conditions.
• Strives to create a positive working relationship with associate operators and Supervisors.
• Can interpret instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; add, multiply, subtract, and divide whole numbers.
• Capable of understanding manuals and interpreting plans.
• Work all shifts if scheduled. Current shifts are available upon request. Shifts are subject to change. Some shifts require working alone.
Unusual Working Conditions
• Ability to climb storage tank heights of 200 feet.
• Ability to access below-ground meter vaults.
• Ability to lift and transport up to 80 pounds.
• Work in tightly confined areas.
• Work independently of others.
• Exposure to chemicals, fumes, corrosive/caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures, loud noise, and wet, muddy conditions.
• Work in close proximity to single- and three-phase electrical systems.
• Tobacco-Free Environment: Includes buildings, vehicles, and grounds.
Minimum Qualifications
• A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
• The candidate will be subject to a background check and drug testing.
